Ashington Choi Kwang Do

At Ashington CKD we aim to teach this martial art  as a practical and easy way to learn self-defence techniques that are suitable for people of all ages and abilities. It is an inclusive activity and even many with disabilities can participate and get much from the training.

Choi Kwang Do is a fun and exciting way to get and keep fit, to lose weight and firm up, to improve balance and coordination, to increase flexibility, to aid and improve concentration, as well as to promote longevity. This is done in a friendly, safe and fun learning environment.

Choi Kwang Do is a non-competitive martial art so you are never too young or old to learn and we actively encourage family participation to nurture common interests between parents and children.

Our belt grading system gives achievable goals. This, along with the positive encouragement from our instructors, makes learning a fun way of exercising for even the least active. Children benefit from this in particular as it gives them short term goals to aim for, and achieve, and they have fun in the sessions. This enables them to  improve their concentration levels and all-round physical skills.

Adult classes are designed to teach practical self-defence, to promote physical fitness, to increase flexibility, to  improve balance and co-ordination as well as to improve concentration levels.

In a fun environment, classes include aerobic and anaerobic techniques that help weight control, muscle toning  and  general well-being improvement.

All classes are open to people of all ages and abilities. Adults are encouraged to help youngsters to improve their techniques, thus increasing their own awareness of what is involved in the techniques.
